STOP the "RUSH LIMBAUGH DAY" Bills ---HATE HAS NO PLACE HERE
Missouri House Speaker Rob Vescovo
ENOUGH HATE!
Missouri State Rep. Hardy Billington (R-Poplar Bluff) has introduced HB1200, designating January 12 as "Rush Limbaugh Day" in Missouri.
WE SAY NO.
In 2012 a bust of Limbaugh was secretly unveiled in the Missouri State Capitol, as chamber doors were locked & Highway Patrol barred Democratic legislators and the public from attending. Despite statewide outcry, the bust is STILL there with its very own security camera.
MO GOP Chair Nick Myers said in commemorating Limbaugh's death: "To some, he was the ‘most dangerous man in America.’ To others, he was a comforting daily presence giving voice to 'the ways things ought to be'…Limbaugh was a master communicator whose presence in the media let millions know daily that they were not alone in their common-sense conservatism."
"The way things ought to be"???
NO. HATE HAS NO PLACE HERE.
Sexism, racism, homophobia and Islamophobia were Limbaugh's specialty, his bigotry and promotion of “birtherism” skyrocketing after President Barack Obama was elected. He described marriage equality as “perverted”, “depraved” and a movement to normalize pedophilia. He called transgender people “mentally ill”.
Limbaugh went after every marginalized group and minority for years with ugly manic hate speech - opening the door wide open for Donald Trump who incited white supremacist antisemitic violence and on January 6, 2021, the deadly U.S. Capitol insurrection.
A DAY GIVING LICENSE TO SPREAD ADDITIONAL HATE IS DANGEROUS AND NOT OUR VALUES.
Speaker Vescovo has the power to stop this ugly bill from going further and HE MUST.
HATE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE HERE.
