HCAA Airport Badge Points System: No Chance to roll off your points
Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA)
We as airline workers at Tampa International Airport and over 1000+other fellow workers at the airport, are calling for a reform of the airport-issued badge point system. Our lives and jobs are being unduly jeopardized by this inflexible and unforgiving system. More than 1,000 + workers at the airport face the constant threat of losing our livelihood because of an unrealistic point cap for our badges, with no option for the points to roll off.
Currently, we can only incur up to 8 points before severe consequences come into play, with no opportunity for those points to expire or be forgiven over time. This rigid system does not accurately reflect the complexities of our jobs or the dedication we bring to our roles every single day. Many of us are juggling unpredictable schedules, mandatory overtime, and unexpected life events that make strict adherence to every rule difficult if not impossible.
A more reasonable and humane approach is necessary. We propose increasing the point cap and incorporating a rolling point system. Allowing points to roll off after a certain time period if there are no further infractions would provide much-needed flexibility and fairness. This approach is standard in many other industries where workers have successfully advocated for a system that acknowledges human error and values worker retention.
Data from similar industries show that workplaces with more forgiving point systems see increased job satisfaction and reduced turnover rates. Tampa International Airport prides itself on being a hub of innovation and progression, but the current badge point policy holds it back from embodying those ideals.
By signing this petition, you can help bring about a necessary change for the over 1,000 dedicated workers at Tampa International Airport. We seek to create a more supportive environment that recognizes our contributions and respects our need for a fair working standard. Please join us in advocating for a fair and sustainable approach.
