Health Justice for All!

The Office of the Shelby County District Attorney, Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Shelby County Commission, Memphis City Council, Mayor Jim Strickland and Mayor Lee Harris, Representative Steve Cohen, and Governor Bill Lee

This petition is in support of a letter sent May 15, 2020, on behalf of a number of local organizations and individual citizens of Shelby County. The letter and this petition request information to better understand the actions of the Sheriff’s Office to protect individuals currently housed in Shelby County jail and detention facilities. In concern for the safety of Shelby County individuals detained in local County facilities, the letter and this petition also demand certain minimal precautions be taken to protect them. The full copy of the letter is available at https://bit.ly/COVIDdemands901.

One reason for this petition is that current local conversations about the COVID outbreak at 201 Poplar do not reflect the voices of the men detained there or their loved ones. Recently the Official Black Lives Matter Memphis published a video featuring these voices, available at https://bit.ly/BLMmemCOVID.
