Finance company TCS/Diligenta is leaving hundreds of Unite members in limbo at its Liverpool office by refusing to give assurances that it is not trying to run down its most highly-unionised site. Hundreds of highly-skilled, trade union jobs are potentially at risk. We believe we deserve answers.

Finance company TCS/Diligenta is leaving hundreds of Unite members in limbo at its Liverpool office by refusing to give assurances that it is not trying to run down its most highly-unionised site.

Almost 600 staff are employed at Diligenta's site in Old Hall Street, Liverpool, and nearly 80% of them are trade-union members. The lease on the current office expires early next year.

After repeated requests from our reps for information on the future of the site, the company has only now confirmed that it intends to secure a lease on the current site but with less than half the number the desks than they currently have.

Alarmingly, Diligenta has also implemented a de-facto "recruitment freeze" at Liverpool - backfilling any Liverpool roles from other UK sites once they become available. It has said it has no plans to lift this measure and has also recently announced the restructuring of Call Centre management which will now be overseen from Peterborough. This has already placed some of our members at risk of redundancy.

As the most unionised site in Diligenta, with a recent history of voting for strike action, Unite has real concerns that the site is being unfairly targeted. The decision to reduce the site's capacity and essentially wind down the site by stealth will have a negative impact on Liverpool's local economy - at a time when the national government is talking about job creation in our city.

Diligenta Liverpool has always been described as a "Centre of Excellence" by the company and its running costs are low in comparison to offices elsewhere in the UK. Its parent company, Indian conglomerate Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has multiple contracts with the UK government making the company's treatment of trade union members a matter of public interest.

For these reasons, we are asking you as Metro Mayor to contact Diligenta directly asking for guarantees that our site is not facing a managed decline and will continue to be a source of employment in our city.
