Hold Corporate Child Exploiters Accountable!

Governor Kay Ivey and Alabama Legislature

Public dollars should support the public good. Alabama's taxpayers should not subsidize corporate criminals that do not follow the law.

Scandalous and unlawful child labor exploitation has been increasingly exposed throughout the nation, including here in Alabama. In the 2025 legislative session, our state's lawmakers have an opportunity to do something about it.

SB 22, sponsored by Sen. Merika Coleman, would allow the state to clawback tax incentives from companies that violate either state human trafficking laws or child labor provisions in the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Last year, Alabama lawmakers passed SB 231, which revokes tax incentives from companies that voluntarily recognize a union in the workplace, punishing companies for respecting workers exercising their rights.

Will Alabama's lawmakers punish companies that break the law and exploit children?

SB 22 would be a step in the right direction for corporate accountability, providing an important enforcement avenue for basic standards of human decency from employers and important protections for Alabama’s children.
