A promise over breakfast is not a vote. We, the undersigned Fremont residents, demand that the City Council make it official at the Special Meeting on Tuesday, July 28, 2026: shelve the Charter City initiative and vote NO on placing it on the November ballot.

Fremont has already spoken:

130+ RESIDENTS PACKED THE CHAMBERS. Hundreds more flooded council inboxes. Three Council Members stood with us. The community's answer is a clear NO.

THIS WAS A 4-MONTH SPRINT, NOT A PUBLIC PROCESS. Rewriting our city's constitution in a single spring — over the stated reservations of the City Manager and City Attorney — is reckless.

IT'S A $600,000–$850,000 GAMBLE. Public money spent pushing an unvetted overhaul onto the same ballot as a sales tax measure, confusing voters and diluting both.

"LOCAL CONTROL" SHOULD MEAN LISTENING TO LOCALS. Not expanding City Hall's authority without public consensus. General Law has served Fremont well for 70 years.

Councilmembers: don't backpedal. Don't punt this to the voters to clean up. Be the gatekeepers we elected. On July 28, put it on the record: a definitive, legally binding NO.
