Home Depot: Phase Out PVC!
Ted Decker, CEO, The Home Depot

Join us in urging The Home Depot to stop selling PVC building products made with cancer-causing chemicals.
Polyvinyl chloride (aka PVC or vinyl) is a common plastic that's made from vinyl chloride -- a known human carcinogen that's associated with liver, brain, blood, and lung cancers. This toxic chemical has polluted communities and sickened residents in Louisiana, Texas, and, most recently, East Palestine, Ohio after it was burned following the Norfolk Southern train derailment disaster.
Roughly 70% of all PVC is used in building materials, and as the largest home improvement chain in the U.S. and world, The Home Depot should leverage its leadership and influence to ban PVC from its store shelves and sell safer building products.
Change is possible! The Home Depot has led the industry in removing harmful chemicals from its products in the past -- eliminating eliminated phthalates in flooring, PFAS in carpets, and deadly methylene chloride in paint strippers. More recently, they’ve made progress in reducing the use of PVC in their private-label packaging. But they continue to sell PVC in brand-name packaging and many building materials, like flooring.
Add your name to urge The Home Depot to lead the way by phasing out PVC in its products and packaging.

As the largest home improvement retailer in the world, we call on The Home Depot to be a leader in transitioning away from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic building products made with cancer-causing chemicals.
PVC plastic is made from vinyl chloride, a known human carcinogen that is associated with liver cancer, brain and lung cancers, and cancers of the blood. Vinyl chloride has polluted communities and harmed the health of residents in Louisiana, Texas, and most recently in East Palestine, Ohio and neighboring communities. Many vinyl products often contain several toxic additives such as phthalates, which can pollute the air inside of our homes and build up in dust.
Roughly 70% of all PVC is used in building materials, and as the largest home improvement chain in the U.S. and world, we call on The Home Depot to leverage its leadership and influence to ban PVC from its store shelves and “help doers get more done” with safer building products.
In the past, The Home Depot has led the industry in removing harmful chemicals from its products. You’ve eliminated phthalates in flooring, PFAS in carpets, and deadly methylene chloride in paint strippers. More recently, you've made progress in reducing the use of PVC in your private-label packaging.
Now you have the opportunity to lead once again. We urge The Home Depot to phase out PVC by reducing packaging and selling safer, healthier materials.
