Honor UIC's Contract Commitments to Our Health Workers and Support Staff

UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis and the U of I Board of Trustees

We, the undersigned UIC faculty, staff, students, and community, urge you as Chancellor of UIC to respect the UIC workers who are keeping our community safe and healthy at their own risk, by expeditiously implementing the contract terms negotiated by SEIU and INA for our hospital workers.

It is clear that the pandemic has reached a new crisis phase, reflected in the official downgrading of Illinois emergency levels from stage 4 to stage 3 over the past months, and the increased severity of COVID cases at the UI hospital. In recognition of these shifting conditions, and the hazardous, essential labor these university and hospital employees are providing to keep us all safe, we demand that you immediately present a public timeline to implement raises promised and contractually agreed to in Fall 2020. We further demand that you immediately implement hazard pay for the work our hospital employees are doing in these dangerous conditions moving forward.

Our nurses, health workers, and supporting staff deserve our respect, not only through words, but through actions. We call on you to honor your commitments to these working people without further delay.
