Hoosiers Against Amy Coney Barrett's Nomination
Lindsey Graham, Judiciary Committee Chairman & Dianne Feinstein, Ranking Member cc: Mike Braun & Todd Young, Indiana Senators
On September 18, 2020 Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away, opening a vacancy to the Supreme Court of the United States. Almost immediately, Senator Mitch McConnell released a statement indicating that a Trump nominee for the seat would receive a vote on the Senate floor before Election Day. On September 26, Donald Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to replace Justice Ginsburg on the Supreme Court bench.
For many people, the SCOTUS nomination was the first time they heard the name Amy Coney Barrett, but not for us. In 2017, Barrett was nominated for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which hands down decisions on cases in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. We knew back then what we now -- Barrett is wrong for Indiana, and wrong for the nation's highest court.

In Barrett's short career as a federal judge, we have already seen her to be anti-LGBTQ, anti-worker, anti-reproductive freedom, anti-Affordable Care Act and anti-immigrant. The stakes in this fight could not be higher. Millions of lives are at stake.
We are in the midst of a global pandemic with no end in sight. Rather than govern, the Trump administration has fixed their gaze on solidifying power through the court. Power they would use to strike down the Affordable Care Act, strip healthcare from millions of people, challenge Roe v. Wade, end DACA and threaten the foundation of our very democracy.
We are Hoosiers Against Barrett and we demand that you wait until after Inauguration day to confirm a Supreme Court Justice.
The Supreme Court is the people's court, and the people are voting right now. We must be heard.
