HOUSTON ARMS EMBARGO NOW
The horror of Israel's genocidal war on the Palestinian people is laid bare by the graveyard of children in Gaza. Children make up half the population of Gaza, and recent reports estimate around 50,000 children have been killed or injured in 2 years. There are now more child amputees in Gaza than anywhere in the world. The war on Gaza is a war on children and a war on life.
The U.S. supplies Israel with most of the weapons it uses to commit these war crimes. Without U.S. weapons, the genocide in Palestine would not be possible.
Houston plays a central role in this, as the Port of Houston regularly transports critical parts for the F-35 fighter jet, the "crown jewel" of Israel's military. These parts enter Houston's port aboard Maersk container ships and are then transported to Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth for assembly. This Lockheed Martin facility is the primary site in the country where F-35 jets are built, and it is precisely Houston's proximity to Fort Worth that makes our port so essential to the supply chain arming Israel.
In the past five years, 432 shipments of F-35 parts arrived at Port of Houston, with over 40% of shipments coming directly from Israel. Without the F-35 fighter jet, Israel could not carry out its airstrikes on hospitals, schools, and refugee camps.
This is where the Houston Arms Embargo campaign comes in. We are pressuring Maersk and the Port of Houston into ending their transport of this military cargo for Israel. We here in Houston have an important role to play in ending our city's complicity in genocide and building local support for a people's arms embargo.
