I Stand With Rahma: Charge Attacker Who Brutalized Columbus Somali Woman

The people of Columbus stand with our Somali brothers and sisters in the wake of last night’s brutal attack on a Somali American woman and single mother.

Sister Rahma Warsame was brutally beaten by a white supremacist as she defended another sister, both of whom are residents of Columbus. There is no place for hatred or bigotry in Columbus, and we firmly denounce this disgusting attack.

Columbus Police Department let the assailant go free and reportedly claimed it was self defense. The people of Columbus call for an investigation into this incident and for the attacker to be brought to justice. If we claim to be an Opportunity City, then we must also be a safe city for all.

Hate crimes have no place in Columbus. I demand the Columbus Division of Police to launch an investigation of the attack of Sister Rahma Warsame and to prosecute the attacker. I will not sit quietly while justice is denied to victims of hate crimes. Columbus must prove that we are willing to protect all of our communities, no matter their race, religion or home country.
