ICE OUT of UConn
President Maric, the UConn Administration, and the Board of Trustees
Since its inception in 2003, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has terrorized American communities. Recent escalations of federal presence in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Minneapolis, as well as the 170% increase in daily ICE arrests nationwide, have put this lawless violence and cruelty on full display. Within every community, people are living paralyzed by constant fear, and ours is no different.
ICE detentions in Connecticut more than doubled in the past year. In that time, ICE has forcibly taken community members in Willimantic, Windham, and Eastford, all within the immediate vicinity of UConn. And in April 2025, 13 UConn students were among the hundreds of international students to have their visas illegally revoked, making them immediately subject to potential detention and removal.
In its scant communications regarding immigration in the past 13 months, UConn has not made clear what it will do to keep its immigrant and international students, faculty, and staff safe, nor has it implemented the necessary policies and protocols to prepare for the threat of a federal presence on its campuses.
The right to prevent unlawful intrusions into private areas is fundamental to people’s protection within any facility or institution. In an April 28th, 2025 statement, UConn leadership claimed it was “virtually impossible” for the University to even identify the private areas on its own campus, much less develop any strategy to uphold the rights and safety of the people within them. According to UConn, no part of our campus is safe.
We call on our community to demand that President Maric, the Board of Trustees, and the UConn administration take the necessary steps to keep its students, faculty, and staff safe from the threat of ICE, NOW!!
An in-depth list of demands is available at this link.

We, the undersigned, demand:
1. ICE and DHS Off-Campus
We demand that the University of Connecticut refuse, in the name of student safety, the on-campus presence of ICE, DHS, or any other government agency that seeks to gain access to students’ personal information.
2. Public Commitment to Refuse ICE and DHS Entry
We demand that the University issue a statement affirming its allegiance to immigrant students and declaring that UConn will continuously monitor, document, and immediately respond to federal immigration enforcement presence on campus by denying their entry. This statement must be issued through a press conference as well as an email to all students and employees.
3. Clear Designation of Public and Non-Public University Spaces
We demand that the University identify and clearly label all private spaces on campus and state that ICE and other law enforcement agents are prohibited from entering private spaces without a valid judicial warrant.
4. Non-compliance Policy With ICE and DHS
We demand that the University does not comply with ICE or DHS officials in the event they request student information or access to campus, unless provided with a complete and relevant judicial warrant.
5. Commitment to Clear and Direct Institutional Communication
We demand that the university commit to utilizing its UConnAlert procedures in the event that federal agents enter any of its campuses, that it directly notify individuals whose information has been released to immigration enforcement agencies within 24 hours, and that it provides mandatory non-compliance training to all university employees.
6. Establishment of Legal Fund for University Community Members
We demand that the University work alongside the UConn Foundation to designate a fund to cover costs associated with legal advice, representation, and other expenses related to immigration services in line with the needs of university community members.
