RI Congressional Delegation: Impeach Kristi Noem

Congressman Amo, Congressman Magaziner, Senator Whitehouse, Senator Reed

Providence Journal

Impeachment is one of the Constitution’s most serious accountability tools, reserved for moments when a powerful official abuses their authority or betrays the public trust. When misconduct is ignored because of politics or loyalty, it sets a dangerous precedent: that those at the highest levels of government are above the law.

Kristi Noem’s conduct raises serious concerns about ethical governance, respect for democratic norms, and the proper use of public power. Allowing such behavior to go unchecked weakens oversight, normalizes corruption, and accelerates the slide toward authoritarianism.

This petition is not about party—it is about principle. Opening an impeachment inquiry into Kristi Noem affirms a core democratic truth: accountability matters, the Constitution still applies, and public office exists to serve the people, not personal or political interests.

As of 1/20/26, Congressman Amo has signed on to the articles of impeachment that were introduced in the House. The Senate cannot currently take up this issue, but it is important for our Senators to also register their position on this publicly. Please also make sure to call your member of Congress as well (their contact information is listed here)

We, the undersigned, call on the United States House of Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against Kristi Noem.

Impeachment is not a partisan act. It is a constitutional duty when a high-ranking federal official abuses power, violates public trust, or undermines democratic norms. The Framers intended impeachment to be a safeguard against executive lawlessness — especially when other checks fail.

Kristi Noem has repeatedly demonstrated conduct that raises serious concerns about her fitness to hold federal office and her adherence to constitutional principles. The recent murder of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis by ICE agents has made this issue even more critical. These concerns include, but are not limited to:

1. Abuse of public power for personal or political gain, including the use of official authority in ways that appear to benefit personal interests rather than the public good.
2. Erosion of democratic norms and accountability, including conduct that undermines transparency, ethical governance, and respect for the rule of law.
3. Failure to uphold the public trust, particularly in roles that demand integrity, restraint, and fidelity to constitutional obligations.
4. Actions that contribute to the normalization of authoritarian governance, weakening checks and balances and threatening civil liberties.

Public office is a public trust. When that trust is violated, Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to act.

We therefore demand that:

1. Memberes of the House of Representatives sign on to a petition to open a formal impeachment inquiry into Kristi Noem’s conduct.
2. Congress move to fully investigate potential violations of law, ethics rules, and constitutional obligations.
3. Members of the Senate publicly call for Noem's impeachment.

This petition is a call to uphold the Constitution and protect democratic governance for current and future generations.
