Implement modifications that will help keep those in jail and the employees who staff them safe.

Correctional Facility Officials

Open The Government and our coalition partners have been at the forefront of the movement to demand transparency from our government agencies about how they’re handling this unprecedented coronavirus crisis. We have been filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests across agencies around the country, and the early results paint an extremely troubling picture.

We’ve received responses from several different jails in various states, and all of the responses so far have indicated that the jails have made no modifications to ensure the safety of the inmates housed there or the employees of the jails themselves.

This complete lack of a plan reflects the incoherent response by the federal government to the pandemic, and we must not ignore it.
