Protect Us from Rising Health Insurance Costs

Health Insurance Costs Are Too High
In August, CT Insurance Department (CID) boasted that they saved consumers $138 million by knocking down the requested rate requests.
(In July, the average request was an increase of 20.4% for individuals and 14.8% for small businesses.)
Something is wrong with this equation. There are no “savings” when your health insurance will cost more in 2023!
Insurers have undue power baked into the rate review process. Insurers do not need to answer to the public, the Attorney General, and watchdogs in a truly open hearing process.
The entire rate review conversation is primarily among actuaries.
And – CID insists that they do not need to consider consumer affordability in reviewing rates.
Action is long overdue. Our state legislators must do more to protect hardworking people and small businesses. After the November 8 elections, legislators will prepare for the 2023 legislative session.

You must take action to require the CT Insurance Department consider consumer affordability when reviewing rates and do more to give us a voice in the process.
Our state legislators and regulators must put our need for quality, affordable health coverage first!
