Let Cuba Play: Uphold the Olympic Charter and Ensure Fair Play for Cuba’s Athletes
President Kirsty Coventry, International Olympic Committee, and Chair Gene Sykes, US Olympic Committee
Cuban athletes are being denied the opportunity to qualify for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games because the U.S. has refused to issue them visas. If this continues, an entire nation will be excluded from the world’s most important sporting event, not because of ability, but because of politics.
This goes against the core values of the International Olympic Committee, whose charter rejects discrimination of any kind and protects every athlete’s right to compete free from political interference. Denying visas based on nationality violates that principle and undermines the spirit of global unity that the Olympics are meant to represent.
Supporting this cause means standing up for fairness, equal opportunity, and the integrity of the Olympic Games. It means ensuring that athletes are not punished for geopolitical disputes and that Cuba is not shut out of competition.

The Trump administration has denied visas for more than 100 Cuban athletes who have applied to participate in qualifying games that are a prerequisite for them to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics and Para-Olympics in Los Angeles.
Without Cuban athletes being granted visas to qualify for the Olympic games, Cuba will be left out of the games.
We are asking for your support to demand that the US honor the strong stand taken by the International Olympic Committee in their mission statement against denying visas to athletes based on discrimination, including nationality.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) views any action taken as a violation of the Olympic Charter, which promotes the right of all eligible athletes to compete without political interference.
We believe that the Olympics should not be used as a political weapon against the Cuban people.
We call upon the IOC and its members to abide by the charter and demand that Washington grant every Cuban athlete a visa to participate in the games.
Let Cuba play!
