#JusticeForManuelEllis
Mayor Woodards, Tacoma City Council, Tacoma Police Department and Tacoma Sheriff's Department:
On March 3rd, 2020 Manuel (Manny) Ellis was killed by Tacoma Police Officers. In the GoFundMe for his family’s legal services Manny is described as, “a young father who loved his daughter and son; he was a talented musician at his church. We are proud of the man Manual became, like so many Black men in our community, his greatest achievements were grounded in his ability to transform trauma and personal struggles into victories… At the time of his death he was continuing to grow in the fullness of his potential. No matter where he went he had a bible in his hand, a testament to his new found faith that he used to bring his family closer together through the church. He raised his daughter and his nieces and nephews with the understanding that because they were Black their conduct must reflect the understanding that being killed by police was a very real possibility for them and would always be justified by the broader society.”
Three months to the day of his murder we must act. Initial reports claimed his cause of death was by drugs, alcohol and an enlarged heart. Newly confirmed by the medical examiner is that the TRUE cause of his death was respiratory arrest hypoxia and physical restraint.
Please sign and share this petition to ensure that the police officers complicit in Manuel's murder (Officers Matthew Collins, Christopher Burbank, Masyih Ford and Timothy Rankine) are arrested, that Tacoma Police Chief Ramsdell is fired and that there is justice for Manuel!
