For 10 years, Marcos Lopez (VA DOC 1661083) has been unjustly imprisoned in Virginia. He was over-sentenced in a case that involved an unloaded firearm during what was classified as a drug-related robbery between acquaintances. Shockingly, the victim involved in the case passed away from a drug overdose years ago. Despite these facts, Marcos remains incarcerated, paying the price for what we believe is a deeply flawed legal process.

What’s worse, Marcos was represented by a public defender, Johnathon Easton, who has since been disbarred in Virginia for misconduct. This revelation calls into question the fairness of Marcos's trial and sentencing.

Marcos is not just an inmate—he’s a father of two 10 year olds, a son, and a man who deserves a second chance. His 10-year-old son, Quran, who was abandoned on my doorstep literally at 2 weeks old by his mother, whom sadly has passed away, has faced immense challenges in his father’s absence, from abandonment at birth to ongoing mental health struggles.

Quran needs his father home, and our family needs justice for Marcos.

We call upon the Virginia Department of Corrections, Governor’s Office, and legal professionals to take immediate action:
