Kaiser Dietitians Are Demanding Flexible and Sustainable Working Conditions

Lindsay Obermeyer, Director of Food and Nutrition

Kaiser Permanente Registered Dietitians are facing unilateral changes that we fear could harm the future of patient care and will undermine the work-life balance of healthcare staff. Registered Dietitians have frequently telecommuted during moments of excessive patient loads because this flexibility allows them to reach more patients. Now management is relinquishing this flexibility without adequate impact from those who do the work, harming working conditions and limiting their ability to reach patients. Sign this petition and demand that management reverse this directive and instead collaborate with the Registered Dietitians to find adequate solutions to the needs of patients.

I am writing to show much support for Kaiser Permanente's Registered Dietitians as they demand a return to flexible working conditions, including the ability to engage in remote work as is needed. Remote work is an important piece to both establishing a sustainable work-life balance and to meeting the needs of patients as volume increases and more support is necessary. Without this option, Registered Dietitians simply will not be able to address the rising needs of patients and this could lead to poor patient outcomes and increased turnover. We know that flexible working conditions are the most important factor in creating high productivity workplaces and to adapt to increasing patient loads.

We demand that management rescind the unilateral changes imposed on the inpatient Registered Dietitians and meet with us at the table to work in partnership to best support our patients.
