Keep Anglia Square Boots OPEN (and protect all businesses at Anglia Square!)
Boots, Weston Homes & Norwich City Council
It has been reported that Norwich City Council expects a significant proportion of businesses at Anglia Square and Magdalen Street not to be able to find a place in the new development.
As staff in the Boots outlet at Anglia Square have reportedly confirmed that the shop will close and will not be replace in the new development, we are starting to see the damage that the lack of support for local businesses will have on our local area.
Many rely on this store for their essential prescriptions as well as other medicines, toiletries and supplies.
The next nearest pharmacies are ten minutes away by foot.
Meanwhile, residents across NR3 rely solely on the local businesses in this area of the city for more affordable and accessible shopping with this often being a lifeline for the elderly and disabled who cannot get into the city centre or who cannot afford to shop there. These businesses are a crucial part of what makes this area special, not yet another characterless shopping centre.
We are calling for:
- Boots to confirm that their Anglia Square location will remain open.
- Weston Homes to support the transfer of the branch to the new development, and to commit to supporting all local independent businesses to do the same, including not raising rents for any which currently operate at Anglia Square and on Magdalen Street.
- Norwich City Council to reverse their decision to give Weston Homes a £2.8 million tax break, money which should be going to support local services and infrastructure at a time where doctors surgeries, dentists, schools and other services are being pushed to the brink, and to commit to supporting local independent businesses so that they are able to stay open in the new development.

Following reports that the Anglia Square, Norwich branch of Boots is to close, we are asking that this decision be reversed and for Boots to make an official statement confirming that the branch will stay open and that all efforts will be taken to transfer the branch to the new development.
