URGENT- GCCC meeting on February 22 to decide if Palm Beach 50m pool will be closed!

The Palm Beach Aquatic Centre is used by 350,000 people per year. The Pool is used extensively for squad training, active and healthy activities, school groups and school swimming carnivals as well as general recreational/keep fit swimming.

Council is intending to close the pool down in May - FOR UP TO TWO YEARS while construction work is undertaken on other parts of the Aquatic Centre, even though the plans do not impact on the 50m Olympic Pool.

It doesn't need to be shut!

With good planning, many construction projects work around options - just as they did during the Pizzey Park upgrade.

The 50M pool is close to the boundary of the site, it can be easily accessed from the creek side and there is available parking. A portable office could be erected.

Thousands left with few options.

All other Council pools are already used extensively, especially the Miami pools, and may be at capacity now. Other Council pools are not easily reached, especially by those relying on public transport.

Closure for a couple of months is acceptable, but 18-24 months is an unreasonable time frame to be without this facility, for the many thousands of patrons who use the pool each year.
