Lake Washington Boulevard - July 2026
Mayor Katie Wilson
Now that it's the end of July and we are more than halfway through 2026 Bicycle Weekends schedule it's time to reflect on how much of a success this year has been. Since the grand opening celebration Lake Washington Boulevard has been absolutely humming with activity.
The boulevard creates space for new families walking with newborns in strollers, kids learning how to bike for the first time, and teenagers getting a taste of independence. Just off the boulevard the water and grassy areas play host to some truly incredible parties.
It's difficult to imagine any other space that could or would so consistently bring our diverse and vibrant community together. Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Boulevard make it clear that, to quote Mayor Wilson, "Magic happens when we create inviting, people-centered public spaces".
The 2026 Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Boulevard schedule has been an obvious and unqualified success. Not having to consult a calendar, and simply knowing that every weekend from Friday evening to Monday morning will be Bicycle Weekends have made it easy for everyone to make use of this incredible park and community asset.
Unfortunately, the opposition to Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Boulevard are already working behind the scenes to influence next years schedule, and specifically are asking to reduce the number of weekends to 2-per-month and the hours to Saturday 10am to Sunday 5pm. Sending this letter to Mayor Wilson now will make it clear that the community supports the current schedule.

Thank you for the wildly successful schedule for Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Boulevard this year. We look forward to a similar schedule next year and a continued discussion of how best to imagine the Lakefront as an inviting people-centered public space.
As you said so well in your Seattle Times Op-ed: "Magic happens when we create inviting, people-centered public spaces"!
