Legalize Cannabis West Virginia

The Truth About Cannabis
We have Bigger Problems: Our police and courts have limited resources, and they should focus on more serious issues than cannabis. Cannabis is less harmful than the harsh drug penalties that lead to overcrowded jails, families torn apart, and shattered communities.
Cannabis is a Billion Dollar Crop in West Virginia: But it brings in zero taxes. Legalizing and taxing it would go a long way toward solving our budget problems.
Mountaineers are Always Free: Cannabis prohibition is an unnecessary government intrusion into our personal lives.
Cannabis Enforcement is Discriminatory: Minorities and the poor are disproportionately charged with possession.
Prohibition Doesn't Work: Criminalizing cannabis does not deter use, and legalizing it will not increase use. Opiate abuse falls in places where cannabis is legal. Cannabis is less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, both of which are legal.
Cannabis is an Effective Medicine: Before prohibition started, cannabis was available as a prescription medicine for many problems. Recent research backs up its efficacy. It is one of the few alternatives to addictive and dangerous opioids for treating chronic pain. No one has ever died of a cannabis overdose.
It's Our Turn: Other states are leading the way and improving the lives of their citizens. It's past time for the end of marijuana prohibition in West Virginia. Why should we be left behind?
Two Thirds of West Virginians Want Legal Cannabis: While the state government has been dithering over its ineffective medical cannabis law (passed three years ago and still years away from filling its first prescription) the citizens have gotten fed up. The Morgantown City Council is about to pass the first decriminalization ordinance in the state, and no one has bothered to show up to speak against it. It's no longer controversial and the legislature needs to show some courage.
