Let Anaheim Voters Decide on a Gate Tax

Anaheim City Council

Gate Tax Overview

A gate tax is a small city tax added to the price of admission tickets for large entertainment venues such as theme parks, stadiums, and concert halls.
In Anaheim, this would mean adding a modest 2–3 percent tax to tickets sold for places like Disneyland, Angel Stadium, and the Honda Center.
Anaheim currently collects no admission tax, even though these venues welcome millions of visitors each year. Establishing a gate tax would allow the City to generate significant new revenue to support essential services and community programs.

At the September 9, 2025 City Council meeting, Councilmember Natalie Rubalcaba called for reopening discussion of a gate tax and proposed placing a measure on the November 2026 ballot so Anaheim voters can decide whether to establish this tax. This step has renewed public debate about how the city’s largest attractions can contribute their fair share to the community.

Sign this petition to tell the Anaheim City Council that residents deserve the right to vote on a gate tax. Urge them to place this measure on the November 2026 ballot so the people—not special interests—decide the future of this critical source of community funding.

After several years of deficits in Anaheim’s general fund, the consequences are clear: parks, libraries, youth programs, housing, public safety, and other essential services have faced painful cuts.
It is time for Anaheim to take responsible steps to ensure that the city’s major attractions contribute their fair share. This is about accountability and making sure public funds are used in ways that truly benefit the people who live here.

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Anaheim, respectfully urge the City Council to place a gate tax measure on the November 2026 ballot. Our city needs new, stable revenue to meet community needs, and residents deserve the opportunity to decide whether the largest entertainment venues—Disneyland, Angel Stadium, the Honda Center, and others—should help provide the funding our neighborhoods require.

Please give the people of Anaheim the chance to vote on this important question and secure a stronger, more stable future for our community.
