Let’s Get Housing Moving in Hayes Valley!

San Francisco Planning Commission

Right now, almost nothing is getting built in the Market & Octavia area — and that means we’re not getting new homes, new neighbors, or more activity in our neighborhoods.

Why? Extra local fees make it too expensive to build.

These outdated fees are stopping more than 2,500 approved homes from moving forward. It doesn’t make sense: if nothing is getting built, the city can't collect the money from these fees.

What will help bring more homes to the area?

Let’s sunset these extra fees given today’s market realities. In exchange, we’ll finally get new homes, support local businesses, bring more foot traffic and activity, and create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods. Let's collect citywide fees (like inclusionary housing and transit fees) AND build housing.

What can you do?

Dear Planning Commissioners,

We are writing to express our strong support for the proposal to sunset the extra local impact fees in the Market & Octavia area.

Right now, nothing is getting built — and that means no new homes, no new neighbors, and no new life for our local small businesses. These extra fees make it too expensive to move forward, and if no homes are built, the city isn’t collecting any money anyway.

By removing these outdated fees, we can finally unlock over 2,500 approved homes and bring much-needed housing, foot traffic, and energy to neighborhoods like Hayes Valley, Upper Market, and the Hub.

This is a common-sense solution to get housing moving again and make our neighborhoods more vibrant and welcoming. Citywide fees and requirements will still apply, so we can continue to support affordable housing and transportation — but we need to make sure projects can actually get built.

Please support this proposal to sunset these fees and help San Francisco move forward.

Thank you for your consideration.
