Limit Single Use Plastics in Chicago
Chicago Residents
The world is drowning in plastics. Single-use plastics in particular constitute a huge volume of plastic pollution.
Plastic recycling rates are less than 9% of all the plastic produced. Never the less, US corporations and chemical/plastics industries continue to peddle the idea that plastics can be recycled. It is a sham that enables these corporations to continue the production, use, and disposal of 300 million tons of plastic waste each year in the United States. The only way out of the plastics problem is to slow and ultimately discontinue their use.
We are calling on Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago City Council to support legislation that significantly limits the use of single use plastics in the City of Chicago.
Plastic production, use, and waste is accelerating across the United States. We need to take meaningful action now to reverse this alarming trend.
