Lincoln Electric System (LES) 100% Committed Goal

Lincoln Electric System

We are petitioning the Lincoln Electric System (LES) administrative board to set a
strong clean energy goal to help the city of Lincoln address the climate crisis. As
customer owners of public power, we are urging LES to take bold action to transition
provide 100% clean energy by 2040.
It's time to take a stand to deal with the climate crisis.
Here' s Why:
  • The electricity sector accounts for about 30 percent of US greenhouse gas emissions, and 25 percent of global emissions.
  • Rapid cost declines, new business models, and technological innovations in recent years have made renewable energy technologies like wind, solar and battery storage more affordable and widely-available than ever before.
  • A great number of businesses, communities, city governments, and even states and countries have committed to or achieved 100 percent clean, renewable electricity.

LES has made positive steps in reducing its carbon footprint through investments in renewable energy but still generates more than half of its energy from fossil fuels. Therefore, it is vital for LES to have an aggressive clean energy goal in order to respond to the climate crisis.

We are urging you to set an aggressive goal to address the climate crisis by committing to transitioning to 100% clean energy by 2040. We need bold actions to reduce the impacts of the climate crisis. As customer-owners of public power, we urge you to listen to your Lincoln constituents in the battle to address this crisis.
