Make the University of Kentucky Provide Resources for International Students Whose Visas Were Revoked!
UK President Eli Capilouto
On April 4th, 2025, President Eli Capilouto released a statement about the revocation of UK International Students’ F1 student visas by the US State Department. At this time, no additional information has been released and the status of many international students remains unknown.
President Capilouto says that “the university will always comply with the law.” This kind of language allows the President to hide behind his desk while his own students are in real danger from immigration officials, and many may not be able to return to the country after they leave.
A visa revocation is not the same as being deported, and international students have not been removed from campus - so far. What this does mean for them is that they can’t go home to see their families and work over the summer because if they do, they will be denied entry into the country.
UK students are being left in the dark about how this decision is going to affect them, their classmates, and their instructors. We deserve information about how this is going to go forward and what steps are being taken by the administration to stop this process. Because of their lack of transparency, campus organizations are taking the charge to make sure that the rights of international students are not being infringed and that they feel supported.
The Young Communist League is working with other progressive organizations on campus to provide assistance and to organize a campaign around protecting international students and providing them the resources they need.
Send this letter to Eli Capilouto to show him that you support international students and demand the university to do better for them:

[Your Name]
International students are integral to the makeup of the University of Kentucky, and they need our support. Your announcement on April 4th is not only disappointing to the campus community, but has inspired new fear into those who have no reason to be afraid. United we stand, divided we fall is the state slogan, but these actions are further dividing the UK community unnecessarily.
We, the undersigned, demand that the University of Kentucky provide the following to ALL international students regardless of their visa status:
1. Increased legal resources for those needing to find lawyers and deal with immigration paperwork
2. Financial support to international students unable to return home for the summer for whatever reason
3. A commitment from the University to not hand disclose the immigration status of international students to ICE.
4. Transparent communication about what is going on so international students can have a plan of action
