Masks Off ICE: Tell the Albuquerque Mayor & Council, Do More to Protect Our Rights & Our Immigrant Neighbors
Mayor Keller & the Albuquerque City Council

The City of Albuquerque has instituted strong policies to be an immigrant friendly city in the past, but now there is more the City can do to unite and protect our neighbors in the face of Trump's attacks.
We're made less safe when neighbors are afraid that masked men may kidnap them with no way of knowing who they are. Our workplaces become less stable when our coworkers are unsure if the work day could be interrupted by a warrantless raid.
It's urgent we do more as a city to protect our rights and our neighbors.
Require ICE agents visibly identify themselves and ban the use of masks for immigration agents operating within city limits.
Require local law enforcement to verify federal agents’ identity when and if deployed to sites of enforcement activity Identities
Protect our schools, churches, and hospitals by formally naming them 'sensitive locations.'
Facilitate virtual access to services and court.
Create city emergency response infrastructure to respond to families in crisis impacted by ICE enforcement
Publicly fund deportation defense. Due process shouldn’t depend on your income.
Expand current “Know Your Rights” efforts to a full public relations educational campaign
Protect all of our city data—no sharing without a judge’s order
Require notification from federal agencies if they are to conduct enforcement in Albuquerque.
Make it safer to go to work by mandating training on how to protect employees' rights when responding to raids for any company that does business with the city.
Pass an Immigrant Civil Rights Act to affirm citywide protections for all, regardless of status
It's up to local leaders to strengthen and expand existing policy to respond to this moment.

Dear Mayor and Council,
As a concerned resident of Albuquerque, I am writing to urgently request you use the power of your office to take action to protect our immigrant neighbors and all of our rights in the face of abuse of power by federal agents.
There's at least 11 poilcies you can institute to strengthen our city's protections. Examples include: Ban the use of masks by ICE agents operating within the city, designate our schools, places of worship, and hospitals as sensitive locations, and mandate training for companies doing business with the city to ensure they know their rights and have taken essential steps to keep their workplaces safer for their employees.
Thank you for your consideration.
