Matt Hall: Denounce and Defund Hate
Matt Hall
Last week, Michigan Republican Rep. Josh Schriver shared social media posts promoting Great Replacement Theory, a dangerous, white supremacist conspiracy. Michiganders have condemned Rep. Schriver, but House Republican Leader Matt Hall has remained silent.
We are calling on Republican House Leader Matt Hall to denounce hate speech, including Great Replacement Theory, and to commit not to use funds from his political action committees to elect those who spread dangerous hate.
The conspiracy theories and hate speech that Rep. Schriver and others in the Republican caucus are using fuel real-world violence. Great Replacement Theory inspired neo-Nazis in Charlottesville and mass shooters in Buffalo, El Paso and Pittsburgh. Other members of Matt Hall’s caucus have used language that fuels hate against Arab, Muslim, Jewish, Black, LGBTQ+ and other vulnerable communities.
Matt Hall says he wants to work collaboratively with Democrats to govern, but when it’s time to show leadership in his own caucus he won’t even speak up to bigotry. It’s time for Matt Hall to change course, denounce hateful conspiracy theories and make it clear that his political action committees won’t fund hate.

It’s time to lead by example. Members of your caucus are spreading dangerous, racist conspiracy theories that put Michiganders in real-world danger. We call on you to denounce Great Replacement Theory and those who spread it, and to commit to the people of Michigan that your political action committees will not contribute to candidates who spread hate.
