MMIW NC Task Force
NC General Assembly
Sign this petition to tell the NC General Assembly that we are not doing enough to help these women heal the deep wounds in the native community. Tell the NC General Assembly that we have enough resources to fund a MMIW NC Task Force to create a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit Task Force (MMIWG2SP). Which would be charged with helping fight the abduction, homicide, violence and trafficking of Indigenous women in North Carolina. The task force should focus on examining the factors that contribute to missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two spirits (MMIW) and the response of social service organizations, understanding the roles federal, state and tribal jurisdictions play, and improving and implementing robust data collection and reporting methods.

We, the undersigned, are petitioning with the Missing Murdered Indigenous Women of NC Coalition to the NC General Assembly (House and Senate) to create a task force. Violence against Native women and girls is an under-reported problem throughout the U.S., and cases are often misclassified or there is confusion about jurisdiction. Accurate data protocols are needed to improve data collection and tracking information.
MMIW NC is asking for a partnership with the North Carolina Department of Justice (DOJ) and North Carolina's Indigenous communities. The task force plans to focus on examining the factors that contribute to missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) and the response of social service organizations, understanding the roles federal, state and tribal jurisdictions play, and improving and implementing robust data collection and reporting methods.
