We support expanding affordable housing options in Cambridge, but the Multi-Family Housing Ordinance, as currently structured, is having unintended and disruptive impacts in our neighborhoods. Almost all the new MFHO development proposals are for market-rate units; they are also demolishing more-affordable units and displacing renters. Developers are being allowed to build close to property lines; reduce emergency access, shadow neighboring homes; eliminate open space, trees, and parking; and reduce climate resiliency. Please stop this wholesale giveaway of our city to profit-driven investors and developers. We ask you to temporarily pause the permitting of these oversized projects in neighborhoods and move quickly to enact moderating amendments to the ordinance
