Mount Holyoke Housekeepers Deserve a Living Wage!
President Danielle R. Holley

Mount Holyoke College housekeepers have been fighting for a fair contract for nearly 6 months. We clean the residences, dormitories and common areas that students rely for a safe and healthy learning environment. We are nearly all women and many of us have devoted 10, 20, and even 30 years to making this college a special place for students.
We deserve a living wage in these times of increasing costs. Our employer has an over $1 billion endowment and the raises we are asking for over three years are worth less than one one-hundredth of a percent (.01%) of this money! Meanwhile management has demanded increased workloads and responsibilities that will detract from the vital work we do for our students.
Our union brothers and sisters in SEIU 32BJ, custodians, groundkeepers, skill trades, cooks, and dining workers, are also fighting alongside us for living wages and have authorized a strike to win a living wage.
We voted 90% to authorize a strike in order to ensure management understands that Mount Holyoke College works because we do. Please support us!

I support Mount Holyoke College union housekeepers fight for living wages and protections for their job responsibilities, and the fight for SEIU 32BJ represented staff to win living wages. In your words, "together, we can fulfill our promise to cultivate tomorrow’s bold leaders and changemakers," is only possible when housekeepers and other staff make enough to pay for the basic necessities. Come to the table with proposals that meet these urgent needs in support of the entire college community.
