Norfolk community and the surrounding Hampton Roads area supports Botanical Garden Workers

Norfolk Botanical Garden and Board of Directors:

Norfolk Botanical Garden (NBG) Workers are unionizing with the IAM Union for a voice at work and an opportunity to make the garden better for everyone. As an essential part of the Norfolk Community and the surrounding Hampton Roads area, these workers help maintain 175 acres of Virginia's largest botanical garden, making Norfolk a more beautiful place to visit and reside. NBG Workers are united in making the garden the best place it can be. Members of the public are encouraged to come out to the garden, enjoy the surroundings, and cheer on the workers!

With nearly 600,000 active and retired members, the IAM is one of the largest and most diverse labor unions in North America. IAM members demand respect and dignity in the workplace. Together, we have been able to bargain for increased job security, higher wages and improved benefits

We, the undersigned members of the Norfolk Community support Norfolk Botanical Garden (NBG) and your workers’ quest to form a union. We know the workers are committed to the mission of immersing visitors in a world of beauty, leading through environmental action and inspiring through education and connection to nature.

We support them forming a union to create a more cooperative labor-management environment, turning jobs at the garden into long-term career choices and delivering the high-quality care the garden, and the community that visits it, deserves.

We hope NBG management and the Board of Directors will respect the workers’ rights and NOT engage in an expensive, high-pressure anti-union campaign.

We love the Norfolk Botanical Garden and believe a unionized workforce will only serve to improve the garden for everyone.

Respectfully,
