NC State, Fire Chadwick Seagraves
NC State University
NC State employee Chadwick Seagraves is a member of the Proud Boys. The Proud Boys are designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (more on the Proud Boys here: https://www.adl.org/proudboys). Seagraves is also responsible for doxxing and sending threatening messages to a student activist at his own school and nationally in both Asheville and Portland.
Chadwick Seagraves, along with another accomplice, uploaded over 402.7 MG of files and information on activists in Asheville, Portland, and Seattle with the note “no harm should come to the subjects of this research.” However, it is hard to imagine that this information was presented for any other reason. Within the metadata of the files it was revealed that the author was none other than NCSU’s Office of Information and Technology employee Chadwick Seagraves.
Based off of the timestamps of the files, it is safe to say that Chadwick Seagraves was working on these files during his working hours at NCSU, and with university equipment. He has been a menace to members of the NC State community and the universities response has been abhorrent. In the time since the articles and blog posts have been published, NCSU has repeatedly taken down student publications addressing the issue. Additionally they have offered little to nothing in terms of information to their students on “investigations”.
We believe that the university needs to take immediate action in the firing of Chadwick Seagraves. His continued employment at NC State threatens the safety of minority students, students of color, and student activists. Additionally, a refusal to fire Seagraves would send a message to students and faculty that white supremacy is tolerated at NC State. In response to the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement this year, the university stated, “despite our efforts to date, we at NC State know we have much further to go to ensure our campus is equitable, inclusive and supportive. We’re taking immediate steps to do better.” This is us telling the university one way it can do better: fire Chadwick Seagraves.
