No Cops at Sonoma County Pride
Christopher Kren-Mora, President of the Sonoma County Pride Board of Directors
Join us in signing this petition to honor the legacy of Stonewall, by standing against police presence at Sonoma County Pride!
The board of Sonoma County Pride continues to center and celebrate police by allowing six police departments, including the CHP and the Sheriff, to march proudly in their parade. Not only does their presence show a lack of concern for safety for all queers, but dishonors the first Pride, when trans women of color led the Stonewall Riots of 1969 to stand against police harassment and brutality. We do Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera a great disservice by welcoming and centering those who are still oppressing and harming queer people of color.
Our petition calls for the exclusion of police from Sonoma County Pride events to create safer spaces for all members of our community. It's a stance against the ongoing violence and discrimination faced by Black, Brown, and Indigenous queer individuals at the hands of law enforcement. Including police presence at Pride events further entrenches the systemic violence against marginalized communities, as the collaboration between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and law enforcement agencies has resulted in intensified harm towards undocumented individuals, undermining the safety and inclusivity of our LGBTQ+ spaces.
Let's make our Pride events truly inclusive and empowering by centering the voices and experiences of those most impacted by oppression. Together, we can build a future where Pride is a symbol of unity, solidarity, and liberation for all LGBTQ+ people. Sign the petition today and join us in telling the board of Sonoma County Pride, we do not want cops at our Pride!
