Based on a recent consulting bid document from July 20th, 2026, the city of Brighton has been approached by Developers "to discuss, process, and approve the construction of data centers" in our city.

The city is already planning for future data centers in this document without seeking the input of our community.

We, the undersigned residents of Brighton, Adams County, and surrounding communities, formally oppose the placement and development of data centers within our community.

Who benefits and who bears the risk?

Data centers cause:

• Water depletion (while we are already under water restrictions and the reservoirs are strained)
• Water pollution
• Air pollution
• Health problems (from infrasound exposure, pollution, etc.)
• Noise and light pollution
• Decrease in property values
• Increase in public utility bills
• Strain to the electric grid - increased risk for blackouts

Data centers do not bring permanent jobs to the community. For example, in the internal application for the Windsor data center, they stated there will be 10 employees during the day and 8 at night once construction is complete. Most jobs are short term construction or filled by specialized out of town crews. We could be focused on bringing actual jobs to our community that will not eventually be automated by the AI companies in charge of the data centers.

We respectfully urge our Brighton officials to:

• Institute a data center moratorium until protections, transparency, and regulations are made clear with input from the community & experts
• Abstain from signing NDAs related to data centers in our town
• Ensure transparent and meaningful public input via meetings and adequate notices
