We Demand a Sanctuary Campus at Miami!
Miami University Administration
No Human is Illegal; No Student is Illegal
Actions taken by the Trump administration, such as ICE deportations and revoking international student visas directly threaten Miami’s campus culture and the ability of students to wholeheartedly pursue their education.
Miami Should be a Home Away from Home
We believe that SB1 is destroying learning in Ohio by narrowing the scope of permissible subjects in classrooms, restricting academic freedom, and reversing the gains won by civil rights groups in establishing minority centers to foster minority cultures.
A Public Ivy Should Value Academic Freedom
In the current political climate it is essential for the administration to commit to the teaching of subjects that may one day be deemed as controversial and protect students and professors from efforts to limit free speech about contentious subjects.

To President Crawford and the Board of Trustees,
Actions taken by the Trump administration, such as ICE deportations and revoking international student visas directly threaten Miami’s campus culture and the ability of students to wholeheartedly pursue their education.
We believe that SB1 is destroying learning in Ohio by narrowing the scope of permissible subjects in classrooms, restricting academic freedom, and reversing the gains won by civil rights groups in establishing minority centers to foster minority cultures.
In the current political climate it is essential for the administration to commit to the teaching of subjects that may one day be deemed as controversial and protect students and professors from efforts to limit free speech about contentious subjects.
Therefore we demand:
1. Assurances that any international student that has had their education disrupted by deportation or similar actions will be able to finish their education at Miami.
2. Complete noncompliance with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
3. Legal assistance for undocumented and international students should they face deportation or similar actions.
4. Define which areas on campus are private for students and what their rights are to refuse an ICE visit within dorms and other private spaces.
5. Commitment to promote the visibility of programs and majors regardless of their enrollment.
6. Creation of a safe meeting space in the Armstrong Student Center for students of color, queer students, and otherwise marginalized students marked by appropriate flags.
7. Commitment to non-discrimination in employment decisions for faculty based on placement in politically-motivated lists, such as the Canary Mission’s list, nor discriminatory disciplinary action directed towards students based on inclusion on similar lists
8. Commitment to listen to faculty recommendations made by the University Senate and the Faculty Alliance of Miami.
Sincerely,
