No ICE Detention Facility in Utah
Governor Cox, Senate President Adams and Speaker of the House Mike Schultz
ICE has purchased a warehouse structure on Salt Lake City's west side (6020 W. 300 South ) with plans to turn it into a detention center.
There is an irresponsible lack of oversight and accountability with the way ICE is currently operating within communities. We have seen the excessive force and disregard for constitutional rights ICE agents have been deploying in other communities and we do not want increased cooperation or ICE presence in Utah.
We are calling upon our state elected leader to stand up against an ICE detention facility in Utah and call for accountability for violence within the department of Homeland Security.

[Your Name]
We the undersigned believe in the value of personal responsibility, family stability, and stewardship. However, the impending ICE internment facility that is planned for our state is in direct violation of those values.
As prominent elected leaders in our state, you have been entrusted with the wellbeing of all the families and communities under your leadership. It is your responsibility to see that each person is treated with dignity, compassion, and fairness.
What We Don’t Want:
We do not want our state to be a home to cages and contracts that profit from human suffering. We do not want to sacrifice our public safety and state sovereignty in service of an impatient and inhumane agenda. We do not want families torn apart and communities living in fear of being racially profiled, or their legal immigration process being disrupted.
There is an irresponsible lack of oversight and accountability with the way ICE is currently operating within communities. We have seen the excessive force and disregard for constitutional rights ICE agents have been deploying in other communities and we do not want increased cooperation or ICE presence in Utah.
Citizens, lawful residents, and non-citizens across the US have been taken and held without due process. Over 130 American citizens have been physically harmed, illegally detained, and racially profiled by ICE agents in other communities.
What We Are Asking For:
We want our leaders to uphold the constitutional rule of law and moral code that befits our elected leaders by:
Upholding constitutional due process
Respecting the authority of local governments
Condemning excessive force and constitutional violations
We call upon you to stand up against an ICE detention facility in Utah and call for accountability for violence within the department of Homeland Security.
The eyes of the world are already on Utah as we move closer to hosting the Olympics and we should show the best of what we have to offer, not repeat past mistakes like the internment of Japanese-Americans at Topaz Mountain and our internment of indigenous youth through residential boarding schools.
