No Universal Credit Based Evictions in Manchester
Manchester Housing Associations Open Pledge
ACORN is campaigning against Universal Credit based evictions in Manchester. Because of the waiting period after applying for, or switching to, the Universal Credit system, vulnerable tenants are at risk of eviction due to either rent arrears that they accumulate in the several weeks it can take for their first payment to arrive, or by unfair, preemptive action by landlords. Universal credit based evictions will hit the city’s poorest residents hardest.
We're working with Greater Manchester Law Centre (GMLC), Greater Manchester Housing Action (GMHA) and Disabled People Against the Cuts (DPAC) to ensure not one tenant in Manchester is evicted due to Universal Credit.
By signing this, you pledge that under no circumstances will you allow an eviction order to be enacted towards a resident of your organisation purely as a result of waiting for the first payment of Universal Credit, or subsequent processing delays which may occur.
Your commitment to this pledge protects vulnerable tenants across the city from homelessness.
