We, the undersigned citizens, are writing to express our deepest concern regarding appointments to the Lafayette Public Library Board of Control. In future appointments, we urge you to carefully consider the applicants and, as you do so, remember the chaos, illegal activity, lack of progress on important projects, and embarrassment caused by the current appointees.

As citizens, we rely on the library board to govern our library in such a way as to provide services for all community members, properly maintain our library assets, and grow our library system in accordance with community needs. The current board has done none of those things.

As examples, we would point to:
1) Repeatedly and deliberately slowing the progress on the new Northeast Regional Library.
2) Mismanaging the planned upgrades to the North Regional and South Regional libraries, resulting in smaller projects costing more money.
3) Illegally firing our library director, then engaging in a year-long search process that ended by re-hiring that very same director again.
4) Repeatedly breaking open meetings laws; denying the First Amendment rights of public speakers, and creating an openly hostile environment at board meetings with the intent of intimidating and stifling speakers’ rights.

We humbly ask that you appoint board members who value our library and our community above political agendas, religious ideology, and culture war nonsensical wastes of time.
