North Beach NIMBYs want to freeze the neighborhood in amber. Don't let them!
San Franicsco Historic Preservation Commission, State Historical Resources Commission

The NIMBY forces of North Beach are at it again. They have a plan to designate the neighborhood as a historic district by the State Historical Resources Commission. The reason? They want to exempt themselves from state law and freeze the neighborhood in amber, preventing any change and further exacerbating our housing shortage in San Francisco and beyond.
Many of the buildings they want to protect are insignificant parking garages as well as the famously burned out building at 659 Union that has sat fallow for 8 years now.
We cannot let them abuse process like this! They are running an end-around and trying to get bodies like the SF Historic Preservation Commission and the State Historical Resources Commission to do their dirty work and block housing.
Sign our petition today to reject this spurious use of historic preservation and get plugged in on ways you can do more to fight for housing abundance and stop NIMBY nonsense

Please reject this spurious use of historic designation for North Beach in San Francisco. The goal of this is to lock the neighborhood in amber, preventing change, most notably exempting the neighborhood from state housing laws. This is incredibly cynical in a time when we face a massive housing shortage, and we cannot let whole neighborhoods circumvent process and close the door like this in an effort to stop housing. Let's be clear about what this is and reject NIMBY nonsense. We can respect history without shutting off entire neighborhoods, and that's precisely how we should approach it instead of using wholesale changes to wall off neighborhoods.
