Pat Ryan supports the genocide in Gaza. Despite paying lip service to the need for a ‘temporary ceasefire,’ Ryan has consistently voted for weapons transfers to Israel, including an April 10th vote to authorize $26 billion more in military aid after more than 33,000 Palestinians had already been killed (H.R.8034). Ryan was one of 16 Democratic U.S. Representatives who protested the Biden administration’s decision to pause sales of some unguided munitions to Israel and voted for a GOP-sponsored bill to force Biden to send arms shipments to Israel (H.R.8369).

Pat Ryan has not been accountable to his constituents. The majority of Democratic voters (77%) support an arms embargo and a permanent ceasefire. We, Ryan’s constituents, have tried repeatedly to hold him accountable to our demands to stop the genocide. We have petitioned him, confronted him at public events, met with him and members of his staff, and staged rallies in front of his Hudson Valley offices to push him to reconsider his position on funding the Israeli military. Our votes are the only leverage we have left to move Ryan to stop the mass killing, disabling, displacement, and starvation of Palestinians.

Why take the pledge? By signing the NY-18 No Votes for Genocide pledge, we are committing to leave our ballots blank for Congress on Tuesday, November 5th unless Ryan publicly calls for a federal arms embargo on Israel in accordance with the will of Congressional District 18 voters and international law.

Why vote blank? By going to the polls and voting blank on November 5, we can make the pro-Palestine voting block in Congressional District 18 visible. In New York state, blank ballots are counted, so Ryan will be able to see just how many votes he is choosing to lose.
