Dear Representative Goldman,
We write again, as your constituents, to express our profound anger and sadness regarding your unrelenting support for the ongoing Israeli massacre in Gaza. Despite vehement and overwhelming opposition from your constituents and the alarming and escalating death toll that has now passed 26,000 Palestinians killed, including several thousand children, it is unfathomable that you persist in endorsing the U.S.’s continued support for these atrocities.
Your recent signature to a Congressional letter disparaging and expressing “disgust” at the nation of South Africa and its filing brought before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) reflects poorly on your supposed commitments to justice and accountability. The recent near-unanimous opinion from the ICJ, identifying a plausible case of genocide in Gaza supported by clear and overwhelming evidence, vividly underscores the ongoing danger and illegality of Israel’s actions. Your decision, once again, to align with a predominantly MAGA-led effort, and to label the ICJ filing as "grossly unfounded," “defamatory,” and "abusing the judicial process," especially considering your background as a lawyer championing fundamental principles and the rule of law, is disgraceful.
We demand an immediate and public retraction of your signature on that letter. We also demand a commitment that you will use your position to exert U.S. pressure on Israel to ensure its compliance with the ICJ’s orders to prevent potential and further acts of genocide, including:
- Refraining from killing Palestinian civilians and causing harm to their mental and physical well-being
- Taking immediate measures to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, where the population faces famine due to the Israeli military's blockade
- Refraining from and punish attempts to directly and publicly incite genocidal acts against Palestinians
- Preserving evidence related to allegations acts that fall under the genocide Convention.
Your failure over the past nearly four months to address any of these urgent concerns is a betrayal of the trust placed in you by your constituents. Your ongoing refusal to call for a ceasefire is particularly unconscionable given that even Israeli military officials have conceded that Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza will likely cost the remaining Israeli hostages’ lives. This underscores that Israel’s actions are making no one–not Israelis or Palestinians–safe. The actions you have taken to criticize and halt legitimate efforts by South Africa and the global community to curtail Israel’s reckless behavior is a further stain on your record.
We implore you to use your power to begin correcting your transgressions. Reconsider your stance and take immediate action in the best interests of justice, peace, and the protection of human lives.
Your constituents,
