Dear Mr. Greg Adams,

As a member of OFNHP, it has come to my attention that Kaiser recently rescinded an agreement that would have required a successor owner to maintain the employment of your current health professionals and honor our Collective Bargaining Agreement, should Kaiser choose to sell. As a health professional committed to serving my patients, this was shocking news to receive and is deeply troubling, raising so many questions.

Is Kaiser going to sell?

Given the sudden U-turn on such an important commitment to your employees and the communities we care for, only one of two reasons for your actions make sense. Either Kaiser is planning to sell off some or all of its health system in the Northwest, or Kaiser wants to maintain the ability to do so unhindered by any obligations to its loyal employees and the patients we care for.

This is not a distant hypothetical. In 2023, Providence Health spun off most of its laboratory services to the for-profit, multinational corporation, Labcorp. The following year, Labcorp bought the labs from Legacy Health, further consolidating lab services in Oregon and Washington. The effect is clear: reduced staffing to increase profits at the expense of patients, lab professionals, and our communities’ health.

We will not allow this to happen to our patients here at Kaiser.

And we believe that you and your management team would not want that to happen either. Please show us by recommitting to the Successorship language we already agreed to and state definitively that Kaiser is here to stay, will continue to build roots in our communities, and will not sell any of its operations to another health provider.

Can our patients count on Kaiser to be here when they need us most?
