Opportunity for All (O4A)

California State Legislators and the Governor

We, the undersigned voters, taxpayers, students, educators, community members are in strong support for "The Opportunity for All." This crucial piece of legislation aims to create a more equitable and prosperous society for all by addressing systemic barriers and investing in key areas that foster individual and collective growth.

This vital bill, which has already passed both houses of the California Legislature, stands to significantly impact the lives of thousands of undocumented university students across our state.

The Opportunity for All seeks to rectify an existing inequity within California's public higher education systems—the University of California, the California State University, and California's Community Colleges. While undocumented students currently benefit from in-state tuition and financial aid, they are largely barred from campus employment due to a lack of federal work authorization. This prevents them from accessing crucial income-generating opportunities and valuable work experiences, including positions as Research Assistants, Teaching Assistants, and Medical Residents, which are integral to their educational and professional development.

We, the undersigned voters, taxpayers, students, educators, community members, firmly support, the Opportunity for All.

The Opportunity for All is simple and just: undocumented youth pursuing higher education deserve an equal opportunity to succeed. By enabling them to secure campus jobs, this legislation will create a direct pathway for them to complete their education, alleviate financial burdens, and ultimately become more productive and integrated members of California's workforce.

Signing The Opportunity for All bill into law will not only provide crucial opportunities to approximately 83,000 undocumented students but also send a powerful message about California's commitment to equity, education, and the potential of all its residents. In the long term, this legislation could also pave the way for improved employment opportunities for other undocumented individuals seeking state and local government employment.

For these reasons, we strongly urge you to sign and champion opportunity for all deserving students in California.

Sincerely,
