Our School Board Should Work for Us, Not Silence Us
Redlands Unified School Board
Under President Michele Rendler, Redlands Unified School Board meetings have become chaotic and less transparent, with repeated violations of public trust and California’s open meeting laws (the Brown Act).
We’re calling on the RUSD Board to restore integrity and respect for the community. Sign our petition and demand that the board:
Be Transparent
Publish all written public comments in the official record.
Give timely notice of special meetings, 24 hours isn’t enough.
Hold special meetings after school and work hours so families can attend.
Be Accessible
- Use a bigger meeting space so people don’t have to wait outside.
- Allow public comment via Zoom, just like Redlands City Council does.
Protect Free Speech
Give speakers a fair 2–3 minutes, as was done in the past.
Let the public speak on all agenda items, no censorship.
Respect the Community
Enforce a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech.
We deserve a school board that listens to parents, students, and teachers — not one that shuts them out.
Sign the petition and make your voice heard!

To the Redlands Unified School District Board,
I am writing as a concerned member of the Redlands community, a community that deserves transparency, accessibility, and respect from those elected to serve it. The conduct and operations of the RUSD Board in recent months have raised serious concerns about whether these values are being upheld.
We are calling on the Board to restore integrity and rebuild trust with the families, educators, and students you represent. To that end, we respectfully demand the following:
Be Transparent
Publish all written public comments in the official meeting records so voices are not erased from the public discourse.
Provide more than 24 hours’ notice for special meetings, rushed announcements prevent meaningful community participation.
Schedule special meetings outside of school and work hours to allow working families and educators a fair opportunity to attend and be heard.
Be Accessible
Hold meetings in larger venues that can accommodate all attendees. No community member should be left standing outside or turned away.
Allow public comment via Zoom, as the Redlands City Council does, so those with health concerns or limited transportation can still participate.
Protect Free Speech
Restore the fair 2–3 minutes per speaker that was formerly standard.
Allow comment on all agenda items — censorship has no place in a democratic process.
Respect the Community
Enforce a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech during public meetings. The safety and dignity of all participants must be protected.
We deserve a Board that listens, not one that silences. Parents, students, and teachers are stakeholders in our public education system, and their voices must be treated with respect.
I urge the Board to take immediate steps to adopt these practices and rebuild trust with the community it serves.
