Parent Demands for the LAUSD Next Superintendent
LAUSD School Board
On April 21, LAUSD Superintendent Austin Beutner announced that he is stepping down from his position. He will leave the district on June 30, and the Board of Education will soon begin to look for the person who will be the fourth LAUSD superintendent in ten years. Our network of parents conducted a survey that gathered priorities and concerns of families so that we can work to influence the decision of who will be the next superintendent of LAUSD, and so LAUSD can hear directly from families about what they want. The current process and communications about what's happening in our schools has not left much room for families to provide our opinions or make decisions.

Our network of parents conducted a survey that gathered priorities and concerns of families so that we can work to influence the decision of who will be the next superintendent of LAUSD, and so LAUSD can hear directly from families about what they want. As you make your decision, we the parents of the Parent Power Network Demand a superintendent that:
HAS A TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESSFULLY WORKING AND PARTNERING WITH STUDENTS AND FAMILIES OF COLOR
HAS EXPERIENCE IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION FOR THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN TRADITIONALLY UNDERSERVED BY LAUSD
COMES WITH A CLEAR STRATEGY AND PLAN FOR STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC, SOCIAL, AND EMOTIONAL RECOVERY POST-PANDEMIC
COMMITTED TO TARGETING COVID RELIEF FUNDS TO THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN THE MOST IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC AND NEED THE MOST SUPPORT
We believe the following issues will be most important for LAUSD's next Superintendent to address:
IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF INSTRUCTION IN LAUSD
DIRECTING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN NEW FEDERAL COVID RELIEF FUNDS TO THE STUDENTS MOST IN NEED OF SUPPORT
BEING TRANSPARENT WITH FAMILIES ABOUT FUNDING DECISIONS
ADDRESSING THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH OF STUDENTS POST COVID
CATCHING UP STUDENTS WHO HAVE FALLEN BEHIND AFTER A YEAR OF DISTANCE LEARNING
PUTTING THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS FIRST IN ALL NEGOTIATIONS AND DECISIONS BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE UNIONS REPRESENTING DISTRICT EMPLOYEES
The Superintendent is a very important position in LAUSD. The Superintendent is responsible for creating LAUSD’s budget, is the person who runs the district day to day, and plays an important role in carrying out district priorities. They have enormous influence over things that impact the education that our students receive every single day. We hope you will take our concerns in to consideration
