Pass Fair School Funding NOW

Ohio General Assembly

No matter where they live or what they look like, all of Ohio’s kids deserve a public school that inspires their creativity, unlocks their potential, and nurtures their dreams.

This means fully implementing the Fair School Funding Plan and delivering on the promise of fairly and fully-funded schools for our kids.

The Fair School Funding Plan is a bipartisan proposal to fix constitutional flaws in Ohio's school funding system by objectively defining the components of a quality education for every student, estimating and updating those costs each year, and ensuring every district receives what it needs to pay for them. After partially implementing the plan in previous years, the legislature pulled the plug on it in the current budget, leaving our public schools underfunded by over $2.75 billion.

Instead of fully funding the Fair School Funding Plan last year, state leaders chose to enact new massive tax breaks for billionaires and even gifted one $600 million for a new football stadium, all while shortchanging our public schools, forcing local communities to shoulder more and more of the cost.

If we don’t act now to fund public education, we’re at risk of seeing our local schools crumble.
This means our kids lose access to essential programs and staff - like teachers and librarians - that they rely on every day. It’s more important now than ever that we support fully and fairly funded Ohio public schools.

Passing the Fair School Funding Plan will strengthen all of our communities, support our students with disabilities and students from low-income communities, expand opportunities for those who have been excluded, and address the unfair and unconstitutional way our state funds public education.

Sign this petition to let policymakers know that you want Ohio to be a state where every child can receive a fairly and fully funded public education, regardless of their zip code, skin color, or income level.

No matter where they live or what they look like, all of Ohio’s kids deserve a public school that inspires their creativity, unlocks their potential, and nurtures their dreams. That means fully implementing the Fair School Funding Plan and delivering on the promise of fairly and fully funded schools.

Last year, instead of fully funding the Fair School Funding Plan, state leaders enacted massive tax breaks for billionaires and approved $600 million billionaire gift for a new football stadium, while shortchanging Ohio’s public schools. As a result, the state’s share of education funding continues to decline, forcing local communities to shoulder more and more of the cost.

If we don’t act now, our local schools risk losing essential programs and staff including teachers, librarians, and supports students rely on every day. Fully funding public education is critical to protecting opportunities for our children and the strength of our communities.

Fully implementing the Fair School Funding Plan will:

- Strengthen schools in every Ohio community
- Support students with disabilities and low-income families
- Expand opportunities for students who have been excluded
- Fix Ohio’s unfair and unconstitutional school funding system
- Reduce the burden on local taxpayers

We, the undersigned, call on the Ohio General Assembly to fully implement and fund the Fair School Funding Plan and ensure every child in Ohio has access to a fairly and fully funded public education regardless of zip code, skin color, or income level.
