Paul Ryan and Austin Scott: Don't Kill #Lifeline Phone and Internet for Millions

Representatives Paul Ryan, Austin Scott, Kevin McCarthy

Communities celebrated this spring when the Federal Communications Commission moved to expand Lifeline mobile phone and internet service to those of us who can't afford a mobile phone or internet service.

Internet access and phone service are essential to access education, school, work, safety and for untold other reasons. But conservatives in Congress are moving to cap Lifeline, keeping it from potentially millions of low income families, seniors, and community members, and keeping poor communities and communities of color on the wrong side of the digital divide.  They are also working to keep Lifeline subsidies from going to mobile phone services - the tool that a vast number of low income communities and people of color use to get online and stay connected to their families.

Two proposals, sponsored by Representative Austin Scott of Georgia, and supported by House leaders Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy, could pass through sneaky procedural rules as soon as Tuesday unless we push back.

Sign this petition NOW to tell them:  Don't keep millions of Americans on the wrong side of the digital divide by capping Lifeline and keeping it from funding mobile phones!
